Dashboard UX/UI Design

A dashboard is not an analytics panel. It's the screen that answers in seconds whether the business is doing well or not, without needing filters, without needing explanation

We redesign dashboards to turn data into fast decisions

Dashboard: the confusion of concepts

Most of what is called a dashboard is actually an exploratory panel: full of filters, tabs, drilldowns, and stacked metrics that demand an analytical effort from the user that should already have been done beforehand.

Stephen Few, the leading reference in dashboard design, defines a dashboard as a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more objectives, consolidated on a single screen, monitored at a glance. The keyword is glance. If it takes more than five seconds to understand what's happening, it's not a dashboard, it's a report with a nice appearance.

Cluster designs dashboards that work as such: a visual summary of the current state, clear hierarchy, zero noise, and a single question answered with precision: is everything fine, or is there something that needs attention?

What Cluster does in a dashboard project

Less is more, when every element has a function.

Structure and information architecture
We define what goes on the first screen, in what order, and why, separating what is monitoring from what is analysis.
Visual hierarchy and at-a-glance reading
We organize KPIs, charts, and alerts so the state of the business is readable in seconds, without needing filters or explanation.
Diagnosis: dashboard or analytical panel?
Before designing any screen, we identify whether the problem calls for synthesis or exploration, because confusing the two is the most common mistake in BI design.
